John Seerey-Lester A critique of all of the students' work will start off the workshop, followed by talks throughout the three days by Mr. Seerey-Lester that address composition, contrast, form, use of light, painting anatomy and textures such as fur and feathers as well as elements such as water and fog. Throughout the workshop, as students paint, Mr. Seerey-Lester will offer extensive one-on-one instruction. With artwork hanging in the White House and in permanent collections throughout the world, Mr. Seerey-Lester has become one of the most renowned and respected wildlife and plein air artists in the world today. Since moving to the States over 25 years ago from England he has traveled the world in search of images. Preferring to paint from life he has visited such diverse locations as Africa, China, India, the Arctic and Antarctic. Levels: Artists of all levels are welcome.

William Schneider In this four day workshop there will be opportunity for individual instruction as well as a full demo and several “mini demos” (painting lips, painting eyes, the temperature of skin, etc.) The following topics will be explored: Materials: Unique properties of Oil & Pastel, Hard and soft pastel, Papers, Sanded surfaces; Technique: Blending vs. layering strokes, achieving deep darks, use of tools; The five steps to a successful painting: Drawing – capturing a likeness, Value – creating form, Temperature – using warm and cool colors to create a realistic effect of light, Edges, and Design Mr. Schneider attended the American Academy of Art. He continued his education through workshops with Harley Brown, Scott Christensen, Dan Gerhartz, Ramon Kelley, Huihan Liu, and Richard Schmid. His pastel paintings have been featured in American Artist, Southwest Art, Art of the West, American Art Collector, International Artist, The Pastel Journal, Art-Talk, and The Artists’ Magazines .He has won awards in national shows including those of: The Pastel Society of America, Salon International, International Museum of Contemporary Masters, and The Portrait Society of America. He was judged “Best in Show” at the NOAPS 2007 exhibit. Levels: Artists of all levels are welcome.

Katherine Josten One can anticipate sharing an experiential adventure into the heart of nature. Participants should come with the expectancy of experiencing something they haven’t seen, felt, or heard before and with the excitement and openness to encounter their own art form in exciting new ways. Katherine Josten is an artist, poet, and teacher in the shamanic tradition whose visionary art speaks about our relationship with the energies of nature. Her award-winning art is included in museum collections and has been shown in numerous museum and gallery exhibitions. Katherine has taught workshops and classes both privately and university levels for over thirty years. She is also Founder/Director of the Global Art Project for Peace, a multi-cultural celebration of peace and diversity that has actively involved 78,000 participants on seven continents. Nominated for a 2002 UNESCO Peace Prize, her work inspires personal and social evolution through creativity. Levels: Artists of all levels are welcome.

John Pitcher Mr. Pitcher's award-winning painting "Meadow Dancing" from the BCA collection will be used as a teaching display along with the original field sketches and studies used to create it. Levels: Artists of all levels are welcome.

Craig Srebnik “Secrets” used by Classical through contemporary painting Masters will be introduced and demonstrated: the proportions and structure of the head and figure; monochromatic underpainting to establish the composition, planes, features, and light and dark masses; selecting and mixing colors on the palette; layering and blending naturalistic skin tones on the canvas; capturing the warm, cool and neutral variations, and the transparency of the flesh; understanding folds and drapery, painting different materials in clothing in a painterly manner; alla prima brush and palette knife techniques; interpreting the effects of light and atmosphere; helpful studio tips.

Alan Nyiri Throughout the workshop, visual and graphic elements that characterize strong successful images will be discussed. The immediacy of digital capture allows the class to review and discuss images within moments after making them – another important tool for developing creative vision. Students will leave the workshop understanding how to use digital cameras, how to apply Photoshop editing tools and how to create powerful images that tell a story and unleash one's creativity.
