Katherine Josten
Art from the Heart of Nature

A workshop for artists of all media—visual, performance, writers, musicians, dancers, mixed media.

A 6-day workshop in which each participant will create art in collaboration with nature. Participants will be introduced to specific techniques which will open them to the often subtle perceptual communications with the world around them. They will experience the adventure of sharing perceptions in a meaningful way with non-human energies (i.e. wind, water, mineral, plant, animal, etc.) Each artist will then create art in their chosen art form working with a non-human energy field.

One can anticipate sharing an experiential adventure into the heart of nature. Participants should come with the expectancy of experiencing something they haven’t seen, felt, or heard before and with the excitement and openness to encounter their own art form in exciting new ways.

Katherine Josten is an artist, poet, and teacher in the shamanic tradition whose visionary art speaks about our relationship with the energies of nature. Her award-winning art is included in museum collections and has been shown in numerous museum and gallery exhibitions. Katherine has taught workshops and classes both privately and university levels for over thirty years. She is also Founder/Director of the Global Art Project for Peace, a multi-cultural celebration of peace and diversity that has actively involved 78,000 participants on seven continents. Nominated for a 2002 UNESCO Peace Prize, her work inspires personal and social evolution through creativity.

The class will explore all the same aspects as the Digital Photography Workshop – equipment, capture, file management, digital image editing, printing, and aesthetics - but this process will be taken one step further by applying this information on numerous field trips to make new images. Daily critiques will give immediate feedback about students' techniques and will expand ways to make images stronger and more successful.

Classes will start early - the beautiful early morning light in this valley is not to be missed. Throughout the workshop, the group will concentrate on seeing the quality of light present.
